Stimulus + Clean Energy = Jobs and Energy Independence

C4CC has been closely following the debate in Congress over the economic stimulus bill-the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. There has been a lot of negative press and talk about this current recession and what we need to do to get out of it.

We here at C4CC see some potential for Congress to do right by the American people and help to move us on the path to get our country working again.

Included in one of the versions of the stimulus bills that Congress is debating, is a program to help encourage investment in domestic clean energy sources.  The Bennett Amendment, is one part of the stimulus that we think can help to spur job creation and help get America back on the right path.

This clean energy loan guarantee program will help to create good jobs here at home.  This program encourages the development of clean energy through loan guarantees to help with construction of new nuclear reactors and other clean energy sources. This program is not a subsidy or handout. Unlike some other federal loan programs, participating companies are required to pay the cost of the loan guarantee.

This program, by encouraging the responsible development of domestic energy resources will help to create new jobs and lower consumer's energy costs.  For example, a single nuclear power plant provides 700 high paying permanent jobs in addition to up to four thousand jobs created during the plant’s construction phase.

The Bennett amendment will play an important role in economic recovery by helping to stimulate the creation of new jobs and economic expansion, providing both near-term and lasting employment and economic benefits.  C4CC is supportive of those efforts.

We encourage you to join us in asking Congress to support the Bennett Amendment and help to put America back on the right path.

About C4CC

At C4CC, we believe in tackling the big issues that face consumers today. It is clear that the safety and vitality of our nation depends on sound and robust transportation infrastructure. Transportation, however, is one area of our infrastructure that often doesn't meet our needs in safety or service. Consumers should have reliable, secure, and efficient modes of transportation that meet their needs and the needs of our nation's economy. We are particularly supportive of:

  • Highway, rail and air infrastructure that ensures safe and efficient passage, while promoting competition in the marketplace;
  • Progressive efficiency standards that promote the development of domestic resources;
  • Aggressive research into safe, efficient means of transportation, and;
  • Policies that promote consumer choice and education in the transporation marketplace.

Join C4CC today to make a difference in this area and so many others!
